Enjoy the Ride
The recliner is an iconic piece of American furniture. It brings to mind long lazy days of binging football games, pro wrestling, car races and copious amounts of potato chips. Chairs are a placeholder for the human body and I, like many others, envision a father figure in this chair. In this work I’m conveying the role of the mother, the tireless female constantly working seven days a week. Through the relationship of my mother’s slippers and bamboo poles, I’m calling attention to the inequities addressing race, gender and economic status flet not just by South East Asian women, but women and working mothers in America
